This is fitting when it comes to hearing that “riots are the language of the unheard” as Dr. King said:
“Listen and attend with the ear of your heart.” -St. Benedict
I plead and beg of you to listen with the ear of your hearts, my fellow white brothers and sisters who can’t hear the language the riots are speaking; that the looting is speaking! I’m not asking you to condone those things or even see if they are valuable or not! No, this is what I’m asking you to do:
You must stop.
Entertain that you may be wrong.
Entertain you may be missing something.
Take a breath.
Close your eyes.
Drop your judgements.
Ditch your preconceived notions.
Lose the presuppositions.
Sit in total stillness free of all assumptions.
Enter into your heart.
Seek first to understand then to be understood.
If “riots are the language of the unheard” then what are you hearing?
Listening with the ear of your heart and attending to that, hearing it, sitting with it, seeking to understand it, what is it saying?
Remaining judgement free.
What are you hearing?
All anyone is asking you to do is to simply hear the unheard…
Can you hear them? Does your heart hear them?
What are they saying? What is your heart saying?
Will you listen to the unheard? Will you truly listen?
I ask of you to just listen, not condone anything you don’t want to condone, but to simply listen, learn, unlearn, and hear the unheard.
Our minds are noisy, messy things, so listen with your heart and attend.
Hear the unheard.
