A Mother Like The Mother

I often fail to pray. I don’t keep mindful of my spiritual life, and for this I repent often! However, the one prayer, the only prayer (besides Our Father), that I have etched in my heart and spirit is the Hail Mary!

I’ve had a strong devotion to the Holy Mother since the fall of 2011! I’ve also seen how my own mother, despite her flaws, human weakness, addictions, issues, and parenting from her own wounds, displayed the characteristics of our Holy Mother to me in my life.

My mother, like our Mother, was faithful, giving, kind, forgiving, loving, selfless, and, above all, Christ-like! I know of no other human being in my own life who has displayed, shown, and taught the ways of Jesus as my own mother. She exemplifies the Holy Mother in the flesh for me in that she gave all she had to her children and loved us even when we distanced ourselves from her.

The biggest lesson, revelation, and awakening I’ve had in my faith as a classical Christian is that our own mothers are like Jesus’ mother in that they gave birth to us, raised is the best they knew how, and instilled in us faith in God. My mother did, and continues to do, that for me.

So I trust, nay, I know, she joins with me when I say,

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee! Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus! Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and in the hour of our death. Amen!”
