Everything We Endure is for Our Own Salvation

I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen.” -St. Paul

God is a good God and loves mankind. Nothing, whether good or had, happens to us outside of God’s will. Romans 8:28 says all things work together for the good of those who love God. That means that all the highs and all the lows, all the bad and all the good, all the suffering and all the joy work together for our good and for our salvation.

When we begin to think in salvific terms and see through salvific lens, the world with all its sufferings, from birth to death, begins to take on a soteriological meaning, which is cruciform in nature. Meaning, the sufferings of all time endured through human history were bore on the Cross by God Himself. And if we are to follow Christ we must also bear that same Cross, but like Him, we find life in death.

Through the Cross, joy has entered the world. Everything we endure is part of bearing our crosses. It is through suffering that we are saved and find life. This is the paradox of the Christian faith: that which brings hurt and suffering also brings comfort and solace; that which brings death, the Cross, brings resurrection!
